Wood-based activated carbon:It is a dark brown or black porous solid fuel, which is the residue left after incomplete combustion of wood or other biomass materials. It is produced through carbonization furnaces and kilns, or through pyrolysis under an oxygen-free condition. Charcoal is an amorphous carbon that retains the original structure of the wood and the residual tar in the pores. Many wood-based activated carbon producers choose compact charcoal production lines for large-scale charcoal production. Besides being used as a household fuel, wood-based activated carbon can also be used as fuel in metal smelting, food and light industry, and as a reducing agent in electric furnace smelting, and as a protective covering agent to prevent metals from oxidation during metal refining. The applications of wood-based activated carbon are very extensive.
Bamboo-based activated carbon: The elemental composition of bamboo charcoal is one of the bases of its performance. It includes elements such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and ash. Ash is a mixture of various inorganic substances left after complete combustion of bamboo charcoal under high-temperature oxidation. The elemental composition content of bamboo-based activated carbon is determined by the maximum carbonization temperature.
The main difference between charcoal and bamboo charcoal is their structure.
The bamboo stems are hollow and have nodes. Due to the absence of layers in the tube-like tissue, bamboo does not thicken but grows upward from the nodes. According to research results, bamboo grows at the fastest rate of 120 centimeters per day. The external tissue of bamboo is dense. After high-temperature carbonization and activation treatment, the specific surface area (BET) value of bamboo charcoal significantly increases, approximately three times that of charcoal, and has a strong adsorption capacity for volatile organic solvent gases (VOCs).
