How to Choose the Right Activated Carbon for Water Treatment?

Selecting the correct activated carbon depends on your application, contaminants and operating conditions. Here are three key guidelines:

1.Iodine value: A higher iodine number (≥ 1000 mg/g) indicates better adsorption capacity for organic compounds. For drinking water, aim for ≥ 900 mg/g.

2.Particle size: Granular activated carbon (0.6–1.2 mm) is best for fixed-bed filters. Powdered activated carbon is dosed directly into water for decolorization and taste/odor removal.

3.Raw material: Coconut shell carbon offers higher hardness and purity for drinking water; coal-based carbon is more cost-effective for industrial wastewater.
