The differences in appearance and density between coconut shell activated carbon and coal-based activated carbon

Coconut shell activated carbon belongs to the category of fruit shell activated carbon. Its main characteristics are low density and light feel. The weight when held in hand is significantly lighter than that of coal-based activated carbon. For the same weight of activated carbon, coconut shell activated carbon generally has a larger volume than coal-based activated carbon. Coconut shell activated carbon is usually in the form of crushed granules or sheets. Molded activated carbon, columnar and spherical activated carbon, are mostly coal-based activated carbon.

Coconut shell activated carbon has a low density and a light feel. Therefore, activated carbon can be placed in water. Coal-based activated carbon usually sinks to the bottom relatively quickly, while coconut shell activated carbon floats on the water for a longer time. As the activated carbon adsorbs water molecules and reaches saturation, it will gradually sink to the bottom completely. Coconut shell activated carbon has a small molecular pore structure. When activated carbon adsorbs water molecules, the air released will produce many very tiny bubbles (just visible to the naked eye), which constantly float towards the surface.
