Fiber ball filter media are spherical packing materials made by bundling fibers. Compared with traditional rigid fillers, they offer superior elasticity, do not float on the water surface, have large voids, long service cycles, and low head loss. During filtration, the voids in the filter bed gradually decrease along the flow direction, closely matching the ideal pore size distribution of larger pores at the top and smaller ones at the bottom. This results in fast filtration rates, high contaminant retention capacity, excellent filtration efficiency, and the ability to be reused multiple times without complete replacement, saving time and labor. Fiber ball media can effectively capture fine suspended particles that are difficult to remove by sedimentation. The filtration rate of fiber ball media is 3.5 times higher than that of conventional sand filters. These media can be backwashed and reused, enabling automated operation. Typical filtration rates range from 30 m/h; for coarse filtration, influent SS up to 100 mg/L achieves effluent SS ≤ 5 mg/L; for fine filtration, influent up to 20 mg/L yields effluent ≤ 2 mg/L. Fiber ball filter media are widely used in industries such as oil fields, chemical processing, power generation, and metallurgy for high-standard water treatment, circulating filtration, bypass filtration, and wastewater recycling. In chemical processes, filler materials—also known as packing agents—are solid substances added to improve processing performance, enhance product mechanical properties, and reduce costs.
